Why photographing women over 40 is so important to me

My name is Lisa, and I am an Alexandria, VA-based portrait photographer. I have been a professional photographer in the Washington, D.C., area for the last 10 years, and this is the most powerful portrait series that I have worked on with clients to date. I can't wait to meet you!

I turned 40 last year, and I know many women start to feel invisible once their hair turns white. We don’t see enough women of a certain age on television or in movies or magazines. We’re made to feel that our voices don’t matter and that, after a certain point, we don’t have anything to contribute to society.

I don’t want that to be my experience of aging, and I don’t believe it should be yours, either! Let’s celebrate our beauty and value at all ages. Let’s change the conversation and the way society and the media see us.

+ WHERE IS THE STUDIO?

The Lisa Damico Portraits studio is located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria and is only a 10-minute drive from Washington, D.C.

+ HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT FROM A REGULAR PHOTO SESSION WITH YOU?

You will have the same full service, luxury portrait experience, just at a special promotional rate of only $590. My regular portrait sessions are $990.

+ WHAT DAYS DO YOU HAVE AVAILABLE FOR THIS SHOOT?

We have appointments available for shoots during weekday mornings and afternoons by appointment. Availability is first come first served. On your phone chat with Lisa, she will share the next available dates and make sure to find an opening that works for you.

+ HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD I BLOCK OFF FOR THE DAY OF THE SHOOT?

Your photoshoot will last approximately four hours.

+ DO I NEED TO BRING MY OWN HAIR AND MAKEUP PRODUCTS?

All of the artists on my team are experienced, full-time hair and makeup artists, specifically trained in camera-ready makeup, and well-versed in working with all ages, hair types and textures, skin types and complexions, and levels of makeup application from natural beauty to full-on glam. You are more than welcome to bring your own products, especially if you have a lip color you just love, but my artist will have everything you need ready and waiting for you to make you look your best on camera.

+ I'M NOT PHOTOGENIC THOUGH! IS THAT OKAY?

"Photogenic" is not something you are... or not! It's my job as the photographer to make you look and feel amazing, and lucky for you I am a trained master at making women of all ages, shapes, and sizes look their best in photographs.

+ WHAT IF I'D LIKE TO INCLUDE MY PARTNER, CHILDREN, OR FAMILY?

Certainly! You can definitely include loved ones in your shoot! I recommend having them join for the last look. Extra hair and make-up are $250-350 per person (if needed). Part of your story is the people you love. So, if you want to include your loved ones for a look, you are welcome to. And you also have total permission to make this photoshoot just about YOU!

+ CAN I BUY JUST THE DIGITAL IMAGES?

Each image that is purchased gets its corresponding digital file with the option to add on prints! We believe in a printed legacy and that photographs are meant to be up on walls, in albums, and out for your enjoyment—this is very much our ‘why.’

+ WHAT TYPE OF PAYMENT IS ACCEPTED?

All major credit and debit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Amex, Discover) and cash. Checks are not accepted.

+ HOW MUCH CAN I EXPECT TO SPEND?

The photoshoot experience starts at $590. We have thoughtfully put together image collections and wall art displays based on the most frequent client purchases. We have a variety of first class products including matted print collections, albums, and wall art (framed prints, canvases, etc), and each photo chosen gets its corresponding digital file. Though the spending range is vast, the average client tends to spend in the $3,000-7,000 range for their session and the photo products they desire. Some spend more, some spend less, but all end up loving more photos than they thought possible. We also offer pre-payment package specials that can be chosen at the time of booking.

+ CAN I REFER A FRIEND OVER 40 TO ALSO BE A PART OF THIS PROJECT?

Yes! I would love to also have your friends be a part of this project! Please spread the word.

+ WHAT IF I BOOKED MY DATE & PAID $590, BUT THEN HAVE TO RESCHEDULE?

I totally understand that life happens! I do book in my hair & makeup artist's time to be at your photoshoot. Therefore, you are allowed one reschedule more than 14 days out from the shoot at no charge. If we have less than 14 days’ notice (or this is the second time you need to reschedule) we do charge a $500 rescheduling fee.

+ HOW ARE YOU CHOOSING WHO PARTICIPATES?

We aren't "choosing" anyone. Every woman's story is inspiring. Every woman is beautiful. So we aren't going to exclude anyone who wants to be involved. Basically, this project is first come, first served. If you are willing to connect with Lisa for a "get to know you" call, pay your $590 participation fee to book your date, and are over 40 (or turning 40 this year) you can be a part of the shoot! YAY! The other limit is that we only have 40 spots available. Once we hit 40 women, we will create a waitlist of interested women.

+ WHAT DO I WEAR?

You can wear up to 5 different outfits in your photoshoot. You can be casual in jeans and a white shirt. You can wear a sun dress. You can wear a fancy cocktail dress or jumpsuit. You can wear yoga clothes. There are no rules. This is up to you! I want to photograph you based on your unique vision and will help you to select the outfits and accessories that will photograph best.

+ DO I HAVE TO LIVE IN NORTHERN VIRGINIA TO PARTICIPATE?

No! We’ve welcomed women from across the country into our studio. We’re only a 10-minute drive from Reagan National Airport and Old Town Alexandria is filled with gorgeous boutique hotels for you to stay in.

We’ll design your session, talk through how you’d like to be photographed, and bring your vision to life! I’ll coach you on what to wear and bring with you as well as what colors, styles, and fit photograph best.

2) PROFESSIONAL MAKEOVER

Camera-ready custom makeup application by our skilled on-site artist! Glammed up or more natural, it's all up to you! Light hairstyling for picture perfect results!

3) CELEBRITY STYLE PHOTOSHOOT

Covergirl for a day! You will enjoy a fully and expertly guided magazine-style photoshoot. Not photogenic? Nonsense! It is not your job to be. I've got you! It is my job to connect, make you comfortable, and capture you in your best light with flattering posing.

4) Image Reveal & Ordering Session

We will schedule a time for you to come back and view your beautiful portraits in person about a week later. At this appointment, you will review, choose, and decide on the images that you want to take home forever. How you’d like those images is up to you, whether that be a wall portrait, a custom album, or a beautiful customizable image folio box with all of your photographs inside.
