Want to look picture-perfect at your next photoshoot? Check out this list of tried and true products I like to have on hand at the studio and have picked up from top hair and makeup artists, personal stylists, and even clients over the years.
Deep Conditioning Hair Mask
To give your hair some extra shine and make it look especially healthy in your photos, start deep conditioning once or twice a week (depending on your hair type) leading up to your photoshoot. Olaplex is a celebrity and beauty brand favorite and easy to find!
Lip Balm
You do your best to make your skin look hydrated, so don’t forget about your lips! Start wearing a moisturizing lip balm to heal and moisturize your lips leading up to your photoshoot. If they’re especially chapped, consider exfoliating with a DIY honey and sugar mixture.
Oil Absorbing Tissues
When you don’t have a professional makeup artist monitoring the shine on your skin, this is a quick and effective way to soak up extra oil and reduce unwanted shine without clogging pores. All you have to do is press the sheet to oily areas on your face, and voila, the shine is instantly gone!
Pimple Patches
It’s pretty much guaranteed that your skin will be nice and clear until the day before your photoshoot, when a pimple will rear its ugly head. Resist the temptation to pick at it (it’s much easier to Photoshop out blemishes when they’re not red and swollen) and instead try one of these hydrocolloid patches that remove excess fluid and oils from blemishes. They take about six to eight hours to work, so they are a great option to use overnight.
Redness Reliever Eye Drops
My lead hair and makeup artist, who regularly works with celebrities, turned me onto this one, and I’ve seen it work wonders in the studio. If your eyes are often red, try these drops right before your photoshoot. They’ll help to reduce redness, make you look more awake, emphasize the whites of your eyes, and give them an extra sparkle in your photos.
Clothing Lint Roller
It’s getting as many of the little details right as possible that add up to a great photo—and wardrobe plays a big role in this. Stray hair, lint, and dust on clothing can be a distraction and make otherwise clean clothing look dirty. A lint roller is an easy fix to this problem!
Clothing Steamer
Again, you want to get as many of the details right as possible in your photos, and wrinkle-free clothing makes you look more polished and put together. A clothing steamer is a great solution for removing wrinkles that may have taken hold in transit to your photoshoot without the need to pull out an ironing board.
Deodorant Removing Sponge
You don’t want to be stinky at your photoshoot, but you also don’t want to risk deodorant marks on your outfits. These sponges are a quick and effective way to remove unsightly white deodorant streaks, most makeup powder, and sunscreen marks.
Fashion Tape
Free yourself from worrying about wardrobe malfunctions with a little fashion tape! This double-sided adhesive tape can help to keep bra straps hidden, close gaps between buttons, smooth a lapel, keep cutouts in place, de-bulk a pocket, hold a collar up, hide a slip, anchor the end of your belt, make a low-cut blouse more modest, and even fake a hem.
